ArcGIS Map Web Part Setup

These instructions will provide the guidance to install and run the MASAS Tool. This tool was created to automate the process of associating symbology to unique values within a ArcGIS Layer.

Add MASAS Tool

The first step is to add the "MASAS Tool" to the ArcGIS Map Web Part.
  1. Add ArcGIS Map Web Part
  2. Edit the ArcGIS Map Web Part
  3. In the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” ribbon, select the “Application” tab.
  4. Click “Add Tool” (manage group), a popup will appear.
  5. In the “Tool” dropdown, select “MASAS Symbols”.
  6. In the “Position and Ribbon” group; Create a new group called “MASAS”
  7. Click OK
  8. Click “Apply” in the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” properties panel. You should now see a MASAS tab in the ribbon under “ArcGIS Map Web Part”

Hide MASAS Tool

This step is optional: it demonstrates how to hide the MASAS Tool from Users (It will still be available to those that can edit the web part).
  1. In the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” ribbon, select the “Application” tab.
  2. Click “Ribbon” (manage group), a popup will appear.
  3. Deselect the MASAS top level node.
  4. Click “Close”
  5. Click “Apply” in the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” properties panel.

Add the MASAS List

In this step, the “MASAS Hub Items” List is added to the ArcGIS Map Web Part.
  1. In the ribbon, select “Application” under the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” category
  2. Click “Add content” (map group), select the “Browse…” option.
  3. In the web part, a side bar opens up. Select the drop down to show the different areas to search for a data source.
  4. Select the current site.
  5. A set of lists (most likely a single one) will appear, select the “MASAS Hub Items” list. Click on the list to expand and select “Filtered”. The “Add Selected Layer” button will appear under the drop down; click the button.

Apply the MASAS Tool to a Layer

This last step is important since it will take a selected layer and apply the MASAS tool to it, which will associate the MASAS symbols with the layer:
  1. Make sure the “MASAS Hub Items.Filtered” layer is selected (the whole item is selected in grey, don’t touch the check box).
  2. In the ribbon, select “Symbols” under the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” category
  3. In the “Renderer” drop down, select “Unique Value”.
  4. In the “Attribute” drop down, select “SymbolID”.
  5. Click “Apply” in the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” properties panel.
  6. In the “ArcGIS Map Web Part” ribbon, select the “MASAS” tab.
  7. Click the “MASAS Symbols” tool. A popup will appear.
  8. Select the “MASAS Hub Items.Filtered” layer.
  9. Click “OK”

The list items on the map (if you have items in the list) should now show the proper symbols!
